The alleged inactivity of the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, ever since his inauguration for another term in office has been described as a poor development for the state.
This was the position of the Peoples Democratic Party in a statement on Monday.
The PDP called on Ajimobi to “wake up from his slumber” and set machineries in motion to ensure the well-being of Oyo State people, who have been groaning under the weight of economic hardship foisted on them by the incumbent government.
The Chairman of the PDP in Oyo State, Alhaji Olayinka Taiwo, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, flayed the governor for running a one-man show and running the economy of the state down as a result of his failure to appoint commissioners and others who would administer the state.
The PDP also reminded Ajimobi of the need for him to declare his assets.
Taiwo, while lauding the governor for heeding the PDP’s advice on the reduction in the expenses for running the government by reducing the number of ministries, however, said he had no excuse for the current inactivity that has grounded the state and brought untold hardship to the people because he ran the state for four years and should have a reasonable blueprint for its running by now.
The party said: “Our party views the inactivity in governance in the state more than a month after the second term inauguration of the governor as a bad development. It is quite worrisome that Governor Ajimobi, after four years in office, is still comporting himself like a first term governor, who would have excuses about learning the ropes or sabotage from predecessors. We sincerely hope that this governmental slow motion is not going to ruin Oyo State; as workers continue to be owed and the economy continues to suffer.
“We call on the governor to wake up from his post-election hangover; elections are over and it is time for him to deliver the promises he made to the electorate.”
