The Peoples Democratic Movement has inaugurated its National Fund Raising Committee.
The committee is to raise funds for the activities of the party, especially the congresses and National Convention, coming up in August 2014.
A statement on Sunday by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDM, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, said the committee was set up on May 28.
It will be recalled that the party had, at the joint meeting of the National Executive Committee, National Advisory Committee and Chairmen of State Stakeholders Committees, held on April 14, 2014, resolved to set up the committee in order to reach out to members, supporters and sympathisers to generate funds in support of scheduled activities and programmes of the party, leading to its Congresses and National Convention.
Performing the inauguration, the National Chairman of the PDM, Mallam Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, noted that the fund raising committee was set up to give all stakeholders a stake in how the party is funded and ensure that the party is not funded by a small group of financiers as is the case with other political parties in the country.
Ibrahim urged members of the committee to use their enormous goodwill to ensure adequate funds are raised.
The National Chairman informed members of the committee that their selection was in recognition of their resourcefulness and commitment towards the growth and sustenance of the party as well as their individual traits of honesty, transparency and integrity.
The committee’s terms of reference included:
• To oversee, co-ordinate and implement the fund raising strategy as adopted by the Party.
• To identify and approach persons who share in the vision of the Party for the purpose of raising funds.
• To plan, co-ordinate and execute all fund raising activities in support of upcoming programmes and activities of the Party.
• To keep records of and declare all the amounts raised and lodge the amounts in the designated Party account.
• To identify and maintain a data bank of existing and potential financial supporters of the Party.
• To report to the National Executive Committee of the Party through the National Chairman.
Ibrahim urged members of the Committee to be guided by the rules and regulations on party financing as contained in the Party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Sylvester Anyanwu, thanked the party for the appointment and pledged on behalf of members their resolve to support the party financially through a robust fund raising drive.
Members of the Committee include Senator Lado Danmarke, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, Dame Titi Ajanaku, Alhaji Alin Kwari, Alhaji Haruna Maitala, Hon. Frederice Osar-Ose Uyigue, Dr. Akin Badmus, Alhaji Musa Bashir Baffa, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, Cicilia Aku, Dagogo Emmanuel, Hon. Zakari Shemaza Kutunku and Alhaji Aminu Ayama as Secretary.
