Okumagba declares interest in leading supporters club

The incumbent Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters club, Vincent Okumagba, has declared that his mission and vision is to re-position the club as a premium brand that will command the respect of the high and mighty in the society.
Okumagba is eyeing the chairmanship seat of the supporters club.
On Tuesday in Abuja, the Delta State-born technocrat highlighted reason for seeking the exalted office of the chairman of the club, minutes after the incumbent National Chairman of the club, Otunba Yisa Bashorun, stepped down for him.
Although the election was scheduled to hold late last year, an injunction of a Lagos State High court put it on hold.
With all the aggrieved parties coming together again, indications are rife that the election will soon be conducted.
Okumagba said: “Very soon, the club will become strong on the ground.
“A club that will be peopled by academician, bankers, oil magnate, multi-millionaires, the well to do in the society not the riff-raff and less privileged.
“A club that everybody will be proud of, buoyant and independent.
“A club that is disciplined.
“It’s not going to be an all comers affairs and my vision is to take it beyond where it is now.”
Okumagba insisted that there is nothing unusual about the crisis engulfing the club now.
He said: “Well, for the crisis, it’s not unusual.
“We are going through it now but very soon everything will be over.
“It’s normal in an election year.
“You cannot rule out such during election because there will be various camps and factions and immediately the election is over everybody will join hands together.
“I have been an active member of this great club for close to two decades now and I have the pedigree to lead the in coming exco.”
Okumagba, who was in Calabar, Cross River State for the 2014 World Cup qualifier match against Kenya, said he was apprehensive by the way and manner the Super Eagles played against Kenya.
He said: “Initially, our players took the match for granted.
“I was a little bit apprehensive.
“It would have been disastrous if we had lost.
“With the equalizer, our hope of picking the Group F ticket is still alive.
“We just need to work hard and ensure we emerge victorious in our remaining matches.”
