The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has suspended its strike to protest the sacking of some members of the union.
The union embarked on the strike yesterday to protest the sacking of
2,500 of its members by MRS Oil and Gas Plc.
The President of NUPENG, Comrade Igwe Achese, said that the company failed to keep a promise it made to the union not to sack the affected workers.
Achese had said yesterday: “Despite the promises and understanding reached between the union and the management of MRS, the company still went ahead to sack our members.
“We have about 2,500 tanker drivers who are our members that were sacked by the company.
“The action of the company is not acceptable to us as a union.
“Imagine sacking 2,500 people with families and dependents at this time of the year.
“What does company want them to do?”
The strike was limited to the Lagos Zone, which covers Kwara State, Lagos State, Oyo State, Osun State, Ogun State, Ondo State and Ekiti State.
