Shooting Sports Club of Ibadan began its campaign in the Nigeria Professional League on a winning note with a 2-0 win over the visiting Gombe United.
The encounter was decided at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State.
It was watched by fairly large crowd.
Tony Edjomariege opened scoring in the 14th minute of play to send the capacity crowd at the Lekan Salami Stadium into frenzy mood.
Gombe United fought back gallantly but the more enterprising midfield of the home side, anchored by Sola Adeboye, dictated the pace.
After several incessant raid, Mutiu Adegoke passed the ball to substitute, Osaghona Ighodaro, who stylishly displaced on rushing Gombe defender before slotting home the second goal in the 27th minute.
Gombe United goalkeeper, Yusuf Ahmed, did a yeoman’s job to deny Shooting Stars’ Gbolahan Salami.
Tactical changes made by the Belgian coach of Gombe United, Maurice Cooreman, paid off as the visitors kept the home boys in check throughout the second half.
Rabiu Ali lone strike late in the second half inside the Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, gave Kano Pillars an away win over Wikki Tourists.
The local derby between ABS and Kwara United ended in a scoreless draw.
