Hosts Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi on Sunday at the Aper Aku Stadium defeated visiting Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi 2-0 in a 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League fixture.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the goals were scored in the 52nd and 87th minutes of the Match Day 6 game.
NAN reports that the first goal was by Kingsley Eduwo, while Solomon Kwambe added the second through a penalty kick.
However, the game was not smooth sailing for the Lobi Stars FC as they had a tough time and missed several goal scoring chances.
Baba Ganaru, Wikki Tourists’ Technical Adviser, in a post-match interview, said while he was satisfied with his team’s performance, he was unhappy with the match’s outcome.
Ganaru said: ““Though we lost this match, but what I have seen today from it shows the team is ready to prosecute its continental games and I am happy.”
Evans Ogenyi, the Lobi Stars coach, expressed satisfaction with the result, adding that he has confidence in his team.
Ogenyi said: “This match is like a world-class game.
“Wikki Tourists are on their way to Sierra Leone for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, but my players did well to handle them.
“However, it was also an open game and we took our chances for the three points.”
