Ikorodu City FC delivered another dominant performance on Wednesday thrashing visiting Kano Pillars FC 4-1 in a 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League Match Day 21 fixture.
The match was played behind closed doors under heavy security to prevent fans from gaining access to the stadium at Onikan area of Lagos.
Undeterred by the lack of crowd support, Ikorodu City FC put on a highly entertaining display, overwhelming the visiting Sai Masu Gida from Kano.
Match Day 21 also provided the NPFL debutants with an opportunity to avenge their heavy defeat in their first-ever top-flight match.
It will be recalled that Sai Masu Gida had welcomed Ikorodu City FC to the NPFL with a 3-0 thrashing on Match Day 1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano on September 8, 2024.

In the return leg at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, the Oga Boys earned a well-deserved measure of revenge, scoring four goals, while Sai Masu Gida managed only one in response.
The match began with an early goal rush, as Shola Adelani put Ikorodu City FC ahead in the third minute with a neat header at the near post from a Salau Yusuf corner.
Ikorodu City FC doubled their lead in the 20th minute through a thunderous strike from outside the box by Harrison Austin, following another assist from Salau Yusuf.
However, 17-year-old Abba Adam pulled one back for Sai Masu Gida in the 38th minute after a defensive lapse by Ikorodu City FC.
With the first half ending 2-1 in favour of the home side, a hungrier Ikorodu City FC extended their lead in the second half.
Kano Pillars’ veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali inadvertently turned in Harrison Austin’s direct corner at his near post, gifting the hosts a third goal.
Ikorodu City FC’s head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, then made a double substitution, bringing on Freedom Marvelous and Ayomide Cole for Harrison Austin and Toyeeb Ajeyigbe.
The change paid off instantly as Ayomide Cole found the net just three minutes later in the 73rd minute.
He smashed the ball past the goalkeeper after yet another assist from Salau Yusuf, his third of the match, making it 4-1.
Speaking after the game, Cole expressed confidence in his team’s prospects for the remainder of the season.
He said: “We are fully prepared for the second half of the season.
“We want to play good football and maintain our strong position on the table.”
