Six notorious armed robbers who belong to a gang responsible for several banks, cars snatching and petrol station robberies within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Kwara, Kogi, Niger and Kaduna States have been arrested.
The notorious armed robbers were arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.
According to available information, recovered from the suspects were three AK47 rifles, one K2 rifle, one Pump Action gun and over 500 rounds of live ammunition.
The IRT operatives were originally deployed to Kwara State by the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, for the arrest of the deadly Offa banks robbers.
But they then responded to complaints from residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on incessant filling station robberies and car snatching within the state.
After unrelenting follow up and deployment of technology and support from the Commissioner, Kwara State Police Command and his personnel, the six alleged armed robbers were arrested.
Those arrested were James Obaje, 34, native of Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, whose confession led to the arrest of other gang members; Nelson Yakubu, 36, native of Dekina LGA of Kogi State and gang leader ,also key lieutenant of the notorious Zakari Yau kingpin of criminals and killers in Kogi State earlier arrested by the IRT; Yakubu Danladi, 27, native of Anpka LGA of Kogi State; Ibrahim Mutari, 25, native of Dekina LGA of Kogi State; Suleiman Ilo, 35, native of Omala LGA of Kogi State; and Gboyega Olaoye, 35, native of Ekiti Kwara LGA, Kwara State.
They were arrested in Kwara, Kaduna and Kogi States.
Arrested suspects confessed to several armed robberies, bank robberies, petrol filling station robberies and car snatching within Abuja and Kaduna, Kwara and Kogi States.
Also recovered from them was a blue Mazda 626 with registration number KEY627DS used for their operations with the rifles found hidden inside the engine compartment of the Mazda car.
Charms and several vehicle plate numbers were also recovered from Suspect.
Efforts are said to be on to arrest the remaining gang members and recover their remaining operational weapons.
