The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, on Friday in Abuja said that the country’s glorious destiny was no doubt tied to the lofty ideals of the party.
Mu’azu stated this at the formal inauguration of the PDP Zonal Integration Committee, South East caucus, at the party’s headquarters.
According to him, members of the committee were selected because of their great party spirit and high strength of character.
He said the members were “well-equipped and disposed to create value, add value and protect values within the PDP family”.
Mu’azu called on them to ensure that they reposition the party to make it the party to beat ahead of the 2015 general election.
He said if PDP members resolved to turn the fortunes of the party around, it would not only remain the party to beat but the “toast of Nigerians on a sustainable basis”.
He maintained that the committee was a strategic plan of the party to remain sure footed, visionary, system-responsive and audacious.
The national chairman added that the PDP was poised to go beyond being a reformed party to a reform institution that was proactively committed to accelerating the country`s transformation.
Mu’azu pleaded with the committee members to put all hands on deck, adding that their assignment demanded status appraisals, clarity of purpose, understanding and knowledge of party members for easy integration.
The committee’s terms of reference is to reach out to all estranged members of the PDP and resolve issues affecting them.
It is also to mobilise new members to join the PDP for the overall interest of Nigeria and ensure that party members became advocates of its vision of responsible politics, responsible governance and responsible leadership.
The committee is also to work out a harmonious re-union between the subsisting members and the new or estranged members in a synergic engagement.
The committee, which has three weeks to submit its report, was mandated to commence its assignment immediately.
Responding, Chief Tony Anenih, the Chairman of the North West Zone of the committee and Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, called on members to see their assignment as a call to service.
Other chairmen include Senator David Mark (South West), Senator Ahmadu Alli (South East), Prof. Iya Abubakar (South South), Dr. Bello Aliero (North Central) and Senator Ken Nnamani (North East).
