Nigeria, neighbours sign MOU to fight terrorism

The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, on Wednesday said Nigeria and some of its neighbouring countries had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to fight terrorism.
Omeri, who announced this at a joint security news conference in Abuja, said the MoU was signed in Yaoundé, Cameroun on Tuesday.
He said the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency attended the ceremony.
Omeri stated that the signing of the MoU was part of the continuing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen alliance against terrorism in the region.
Omeri said as a follow up to the Paris, France summit and commitment to end the insurgency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, was attending a meeting in London to build on the gains of the summit.
“The outcome of the meeting is expected to strengthen the level of implementation of the various agreements on the fight against terrorism,” he said.
The coordinator, however, expressed worry that some Nigerians were abusing telephone numbers given to the public to report security threats for prompt action.
He said: “We are worried over the level of false information being dished out by some members of the public, who are using the telephone numbers to settle personal scores.
“We advice that these numbers should be strictly used to ensure security of Nigerians.”
