N225m aviation scandal: Cars should have cost N75.8m – Report

The two BMW 760LI cars bought by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority for the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, for N225 million should not have cost more than N46.4 million, less armouring and delivery to Nigeria.
This revelation was made by an online news medium, Persecond News, based on a finding at the BMW outlet in the United States of America.
The news medium, which operates at www.persecondnews.com, said a visit by its reporters to the BMW outlets in Maryland, United States of America, revealed that a fully loaded 2014 BMW 760LI costs less than $145,000, which is about N23.2 million.
In essence, the two cars would have cost the NCAA and Oduah less than N46.4 million.
Persecond News also reported that the entire cost of the vehicle, including armouring and delivery to Nigeria, has been put at N37.9 million by a United States of America-based firm, Armouring LLC, which specializes in armouring vehicles of all makes.
The Chief Executive Officer of Armouring LLC, Dave Simmons, said to purchase, armour and deliver the BMW 760LI to Nigeria would cost a maximum of N37.9 million, which would bring the cost of the two vehicles bought for Oduah to N75.8 million instead of the N225 million paid by the NCAA.
Simmons said the BMW 760LI is a combination of dynamic and refined BMW, which has a V-8 engine with TwinPower Turbo technology and 400 horsepower, making it ideal for added armour.
