Owing to unruly behaviour, some supporters of Chief James Ibori have been thrown out of the Southwark Crown Court in the United Kingdom, where the former Delta State governor is about to be sentenced for charges bothering on corruption and money laundering.
The supporters, after the initial report by The Eagle Online, dragged a crown court prosecutor to the ground in the process of forcefully gaining entrance into the court.
The court, presided over by Judge Anthony Pitts, was bombarded by a lot of supporters of the embattled former governor as early as 7am.
Most of them were reported to have been flown from Nigeria to London for the sentencing.
The National Mirror on Sunday had in a report said that politicians and government officials from Delta State had been flown to London for the sole purpose of attending the sentencing, billed for Monday and Tuesday.
As earlier reported, some of them claimed to be journalists from Nigeria.
Indeed, some identified themselves as Oghara Press and some as Warri Press.
Our correspondent in the court reported that Ibori’s supporters went as far as protesting their exclusion because of what they termed marginalisation in favour of the foreign media, dominated by whites.
And in their bid to forcefully gain entry into the court, they pushed down a staff of the court, leading to the invitation of the Metropolitan Police and their forceful ejection from the court.
It could not be confirmed as at press time if anyone was arrested.
We will update you as soon as there are developments.
