The League Management Company has fixed November 4 as new date for the replay of a postponed 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League Week 33 match.
The match is between FC IfeanyiUbah of Nnewi and El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the postponement came after El-Kanemi Warriors failed to honour the league encounter originally scheduled for October 11 in Nnewi.
The game did not hold as the Maiduguri club failed to turn up, following the refusal of players to travel to honour the game over unpaid wages.
NAN reports that LMC had earlier ordered that the match be replayed on October 28.
Salihu Abubakar, LMC’s Chief Operating Officer, told NAN that the new date was to give way for NPFL Week 35 matches, which were rescheduled because of the Nigeria-Burkina Faso match.
Abubakar said: “We have moved the match’s replay from October 28 to November 4 and we have communicated to both teams on the new date since last week.
“This will allow the NPFL Week 35 matches take place on Wednesday, October 28 after they were rescheduled because of the Championship of African Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Burkina Faso.”
Abubakar said the LMC as well as both clubs have gotten over the controversies surrounding the possibility of a replay.
He said: “El-Kanemi Warriors FC will bear the cost of organising the match to the tune of N2 million, having failed to promptly notify LMC and the home team of their inability to honour the match.
“The club will also pay N240,000 compensation to FC IfeanyiUbah, for loss of revenue accruing from the match.”
He commended NPFL stakeholders who had so far contributed to the success of the league.
Abubakar also applauded the Super Eagles’ home-based players for picking the CHAN 2016 ticket at the expense of Burkina Faso.
He described the CHAN squad as the future of the senior national football team.
He said: “We are happy that Nigeria won that match because all the players came from the NPFL.
“We were there and I was delighted with the level of understanding and confidence of the players.”
