The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has started its campaign for the local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
PDP, at the ceremony held at the Uyo Township Stadium, presented the party flags to its 31 chairmanship candidates.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Umo Eno congratulated the candidates on their emergence as flag-bearers and charged them to engage in issue-based campaigns, devoid of bitterness, violence, and mudslinging.
He assured them that his administration’s achievements would pave the way for their campaigns.
While stressing the importance of accountability, transparency, and rural development, Eno reminded the candidates to key into his vision for the state, assuring that his administration would continue to collaborate with the third tier of government.
In his remarks, the State PDP Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, lauded the governor’s performance and commended him for giving the party a solid foundation to campaign.

He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the October 5 polls and reiterated that PDP remains the people’s choice.
Other speakers, including the deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and political leaders of Ikot Ekpene, Uyo, and Eket Senatorial districts, praised the governor’s leadership style and the party’s inclusive approach.
The 31 chairmanship candidates, responding through the chairmanship candidate of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, thanked the governor and PDP for the opportunity to fly the party’s flag, promising to stay on issues throughout the campaigns
