The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee in Mushin, Lagos State, Dr. Emmanuel Abiodun Williams, has accused parents of being responsible for the incessant cult clashes in the area.
For long now, Mushin and Surulere have become volatile areas due to constant cult clashes.
It is so bad that some residents have had to relocate.
During one of their clashes, two brothers were gunned down, while a pregnant was also killed.
The activities of the cultists appeared to have become overwhelming for police in Lagos State.
According to Williams, one of the recent clashes between two rival cult groups was because a girlfriend to a girl in another faction gave her phone number to a rival gang member at a party.
And before one could say Jack Robinson, the two factions had clashed shooting, maiming and killing like they were in a wild west movie.
William blamed the activities of the cultists on parents.
He said: “Most parents just go to work, not bothered if their children are in school or not.
“Some don’t even care to study their children’s movement and habits all in the name of concluding that their children are teenagers, thus old enough to care for themselves and that is a grave mistake on the part of the parents.
“These are issues parents should look into.
“Can you imagine that these boys started killing themselves because of the factions exchanged phone number with one lady who is a girlfriend to another faction member at a naming ceremony.
“Isn’t that crazy?”
