The Police on Thursday said the British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed that Senator Buruji Kashamu was arrested and tried in a United Kingdom criminal court.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja.
The statement said there was enquiry concerning the status of Kashamu’s legal battles in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Ojukwu said in the statement: “The police, thereafter, sought relevant clarifications from the British High Commission.
“The commission confirmed that Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in the United Kingdom criminal court. But the court was not satisfied that Kashamu had a case to answer.”
The statement stressed that the commission’s clarification did not derogate from extradition request by United States’ relevant departments and agencies of government in Nigeria.
The statement was also issued in connection to the extradition battles of Kashamu with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
