The combined security team put in place by the Federal Government to check the menace of Boko Haram, the Joint Task Force, has engaged the dreaded sect in a shootout in Kano State.
The shootout is said to be around Hotoro area of Kano City, which has come under constant attack of Boko Haram since January this year.
A source in Kano told The Eagle Online that members of Boko Haram on Saturday night shot and killed a soldier and a riot policemen in Hotoro area.
It was learnt that owing to the killing, the JTF, made up of different security agencies including the military, State Security Service and the police embarked on intelligence gathering, which led to the discovery of a location in the area where the members of Boko Haram are said to be residing.
The JTF decided to storm the area at about 11am this morning to flush out the Boko Haram members.
But this was resisted by the members of the dreaded sect, which led to the shootout, the source said.
Sources in Kano said the shootout was yet to abate as at the time of filing this report though the intensity has reduced.
There was no official confirmation of the shooting or what led to it as at press time.
The JTF has promised to speak with newsmen this afternoon.
