Jonathan tasks Nigerians on continuous prayers for the nation

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday urged religious leaders and Nigerians to support him with continuous prayers to move the nation forward.

Jonathan made the call at the 13th Biennial Conference of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, held at The Redeemed Evangelical Mission national headquarters in Lagos.

The three-day conference, with the theme: “In the presence of His Spirit,” started on Wednesday and would end on Friday.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said that the prayers of Nigerians have been the pillar that has been keeping the country together.

He said: “I am aware of the fact that without God Nigeria will not be here today.

“I thank Nigerians for their constant prayers for the country.

“As we move in the direction of moving the country forward, we should make sure that the word and kingdom of God is preached.”

Also speaking, Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God urged religious leaders and Nigerians to turn to God and embrace righteousness so as to attract God’s favour and mercy.

Adeboye described righteousness as the only foundation that can exalt a nation, adding that any nation that has the fear of God and filled with righteousness would qualify for Gods’ favour.

He said: “The word of God is relegated to the background in the country.

“That is why there are many problems.

“God is waiting for clean vessels to pour his power into.

“At this moment, Nigerians need to see the manifestation of His power.

“When the fire of God falls poverty will disappear.”

Earlier, the President of the PFN, Rev. Felix Omobude, said it was not a coincidence that the conference was holding at a crucial time in the history of Nigeria.

Omobude said: “It must remind us of our responsibility to stand in gap for our nation and guide her in the right direction.

“As the general elections approach, we declare that only the will of God shall prevail over our land and that peace and prosperity shall continue to be the portion of Nigerians.”
