Despite the death of three managers in his business group, Energy Group, the Group Managing Director of the company, Jimoh Ibrahim, is proceeding with the one week annual GMD’s Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
As earlier exclusively reported on Saturday by The Eagle Online, three managers, attached to one of the subsidiaries of Energy Group in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nicon Hotels, died in a car crash on their way to Lagos in preparation for the trip to Dubai.
A fourth manager is said to be in coma.
The accident happened on Friday night.
The first batch of the 200 staff of the conglomerate to the conference are due to leave Lagos aboard Emirates Airline at 2:30pm on Saturday (today).
The second batch will leave at 8pm also with Emirates Airline later in the day.
The conference is scheduled to hold between Sunday (tomorrow) and next week Saturday.
But the list of those attending the conference is already generating controversy within the Energy Group.
A source told The Eagle Online that while some senior managers were excluded or dropped from the trip at the last minute, some part time staff, including those observing their industrial attachments, have been picked to attend the conference.
Among those not included in the conference are the Managing Director of Daily Newswatch, Moses Jolayemi.
Also excluded from the trip is the Chief Operating Officer of Daily Newswatch, Femi Ige.
However, Jolayemi’s secretary, Bola Toba, curiously, according to the source. is said to be attending the conference.
But perhaps the most shocking was the last minute decision to drop the Editor of National Mirror, Seyi Fasuba, from the trip.
Fasuba, who was earlier listed for the conference, is said to be bitter about the development.
