The National President, Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Udengs Eradiri, says the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State needs special intervention from the Federal government to serve the purpose for its establishment.
Eradiri said this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit on the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Seth Jaja.
According to him, the intervention will help the young institution put in place necessary infrastructure to facilitate its development.
The IYC President also said that priority needed to be given to the university because of its strategic location in the heart of the Niger Delta, for it to help solve some of the region’s peculiar challenges.
Congratulating the Vice Chancellor on his appointment, Eradiri expressed confidence in the new administration and assured him of IYC’s support throughout his tenure.
He, however, urged the VC to address what he described as perceived inequality in terms of appointments and admissions existing in the university.
According to him, the essence of establishing the institution is to serve as a spring board to help the Ijaws compete favourably with their contemporaries’.
Responding, Jaja said his administration was anchored on equity and fair play and assured the Ijaw youths of his determination to develop the new institution.
The VC said that he would address all the various challenges facing the institution before he assumed duty.
Commending the IYC for the visit, Jaja said that FUO would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in the state for the development of the institution.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the confidence reposed in him, which he described as encouraging.
