Traders of Northern origin at the popular Mile 12 Market in Lagos clashed on Friday over the chairmanship of the Arewa Perishable Foodstuff Association.
The clash, which started at about 9am, was aimed at removing the incumbent Chairman of the association, Alhaji Haruna Mohammed.
Though no one was confirmed dead in the clash, several persons were injured.
Trouble reportedly started at about 9am when gunmen, under the leadership of one Alhaji Seidu, stormed the market in the bid to forcefully remove Mohammed.
Mohammed reportedly fought back, along with his supporters, a development that led to a free-for-all.
Traders who had commenced activities for the day quickly packed up.
It took the intervention of policemen from the Ketu Police Station and those of the Rapid Response Squad to restore normalcy.
As at the time of filing this report on Saturday morning, police teams were still at the market to prevent a repeat of the Friday episode.
