A rubber company in Delta State, the Fast Ride Nigeria Limited, was on Tuesday swindled of property estimated at N10 million.
The company, situated in Sapele, by the Nigerian Television Authority Close, in Amukpe Roundabout, along the Benin-Warri Expressway, took it to be an outsider game until it was traced to an employee.
The company’s supervisor had reported to the police that thieves burgled the company and stole goods worth N1.2 million and a truck before the security guard was fingered.
Worse as the case may be, the guard successfully moved the goods, including 18 gate valued, one GL 12 DB Motor 7.5/10 H.P and Filling Machine Bosch, away with the company’s truck with registration number XB 322 SAP.
He stole other goods such as 6.8” x 4 x 150 flange, 10PKFS of Stainless electrodes, Welding Cables, one coil of brass thunder arrestor, one 20ft of 4×6 sch M/S pipe, two length of 8”x6m 40/ms pipe, 18 H beam, eight stainless plates 2.5mm, 50 sheet of 2mmx4x8 plate metal steel and 10 length of 25mm angle.
Others were 27 stainless 1mm, 43” 40x6mm gavanile pipe, five UCP 212kg bearing, two coils of binding wire 5kg each, two sliding windows, one carton of round HP/litre 12, three welding machines, four channel 20ft (12 pcs) 2x4mm, one Jiling generator, one and half drum of diesel, four value, one lorry (XB 322 SAP), three shovels, bundles of cables and set of spanners.
The guard, one ThankGod, surname unknown, in collaboration with two other persons, suspected to be employees of the company, allegedly carried out the crime.
However, when detectives from the state Command Headquarters, Asaba, swung into action, with the aid of electronic devices, five of the stolen goods were traced to Orlu, in Imo State, where the kingpin jumped arrest.
“After a hot chase,” said the Police Public Relations Officer, Lucky Uyabeme, he was shot in the leg and thereafter died on the way to Orlu General Hospital.”
Uyabeme confirmed that other suspects have since confessed to disposing off the stolen materials in Aba, Abia State.
