The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Jaiyeoba Joseph, today said the police has commenced investigation into series of robbery incidences at the Guarantee Trust Bank, Ilupeju, Lagos State branch, with a view to unravelling why the branch has become target of armed robbers.
Joseph said the force is convinced that the robbers have an insider feeding them with information about the customers’ bank transactions.
“We are convinced that the robberies are in connivance with an insider of the bank and the branch manager of the bank has been invited for questioning following series of robbery incidents that occur in that branch almost on a daily basis,” Mr Joseph said.
It can be recalled that last week Thursday, a six-man armed robbery gang laid siege to the bank and attacked a customer identified as Bakare Kolawale with a gun and snatched the N250,000 he withdrew from the bank.
Luckily for Kolawole, a team of policemen from the Ilupeju Police Station on patrol of the area, engaged the robbers in a gun battle and arrested two members of the gang.
Joseph said five cut to size guns, one knife, two expended cartridges, two cartridges, two motorcycles and N250,000 were recovered from the robbers.
