Gov. Obiano urged to intervene in Anambra APGA crisis

Chief Tony Omeligwe-Elee, the acting Chairman of the Working Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Anambra State, has called on Governor Willie Obiano to effect the desired change in the committee.
Omeligwe-Elee made call on Monday when he led his team to a member of Board of Trustee of the party, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, in Oba, Idemili South Council area.
He said neither himself nor any of the 18 members in the SWC, who impeached the former chairman, were interested in becoming the substantive chairman.
Omeligwe-Elee said that all they were asking for from Obiano was a chairman from Anambra Central who would make the party to be more popular in the state.
Omeligwe-Elee said: “The leadership of APGA in Anambra as it is now is like a broken-down engine; I have not come to take over the party.
“We have told Governor Willie Obiano and we are telling him again to give us the leadership that can make APGA work in Anambra.
“We have to come to you as the spiritual leader of APGA to tell you that we are concerned about what APGA has become under the former leadership in Anambra.
“His intervention is necessary because all we want is to ensure the victory of APGA in the next year’s election.”
Responding, Ezeonwuka described the party as seemingly moribund in Anambra and said he supported the move for change.
He said that the erstwhile SWC in Anambra lacked the capacity to mobilise the grassroots to secure victory for the party in next gubernatorial election in 2017.
Ezeonwuka said: “I have heard the complaints of the new state SWC and I agree that there is need for change; we cannot continue to work without a leadership that does not enjoy the confidence of the followers.
“We should have a party programme from the local governments to the state up to the national; we do not a party leadership that lacks vision blue print.
“In spite of all our leader and governor of Anambra is doing, APGA is floating at the ward level because of the SWC we had, no consultation with members, the management of party fund is not transparent as they have complained.
“Though as an individual, I do not have the power to endorse them, but as the spiritual leader, I can say they are on a just course and advise them to channel their complaints to the NWC for ratification so that the second term of the governor can be guaranteed.”
Seventeen members of the 28-man Anambra APGA SWC on Friday in Awka impeached its chairman, Chief Nobert Obi, for alleged misconducts.
The committee also announced the deputy chairman of the party in Anambra Central, Omeligwe-Elee, as its acting chairman in the state.
Meanwhile, the embattled chairman, Obi, told journalists at the secretariat on Monday that he remained the chairman of the party.
He said he had not breached any law of the party and urged members to remain calm.
