The Lagos State Government said it has uncovered a N82 million fraud traced to payment for ghost workers in the state.
Part of the fund lost by the state government also went to deceased pensioners in 2010 and 2011.
The ghost workers were discovered in local governments, local council development area and Local Government Education Authorities.
About 100 of them have been arrested according to a statement from the office of the Permanent Secretary/Auditor-General for Local Governments, Mohammed Hassan.
The statement said the discovery was a major breakthrough for the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola in its bid to tackle the menace of ghost workers in the state.
