Gambia: Kalu lauds Buhari, congratulates Barrow

Eminent businessman and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has congratulated Adama Barrow on his swearing as the President of the Gambia.
Kalu said the final concession of power by ex-President Yahya Jammeh is good for democracy.
According to Kalu, the timely intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and other African leaders remains commendable and worth emulating, noting that the era of undemocratic and uncivilized acts in Africa is over.
The former governor made these remarks on Sunday in his Abuja residence while hosting a cross-section of Gambian investors led by Edrissa Jobe.
He said: “At a time countries all over the world are committed to the rule of law, Africa cannot be left out in this noble cause.
“The selfish ambition of an individual should not be allowed to draw a country backward.
“It is indeed a new beginning for Gambia and Gambians.
“President Barrow has earned the goodwill of the people, which is obvious with the result of the December presidential poll
“It is imperative for the new helmsman to learn from the mistakes of his predecessor in forging ahead.
“This is the time for the new Gambian president to redefine governance in the Gambia while embracing the tenets of democracy.
“The will of the people must be respected by those in leadership positions at all times.”
The former governor, while appealing to the political class to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship in their political pursuits, pointed out that the benefits of democracy are boundless.
Kalu equally used the occasion to acknowledge the roles of international and regional bodies, including the United Nations, Economic Community of West African States and African Union in the ongoing peaceful transition of power in the Gambia.
