The Federal Roads Safety Corps ( FRSC) is to partner with the Nigerian Air Force to introduce air ambulances services across the country.
Corps Marshall,, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, disclosed this in Sokoto on Wednesday at the inauguration of a new office for its Sokoto state command, built and furnished by the Sokoto government at the cost of N15 million
” This is an extension of the same partnership where we conduct air surveillance and patrols across Nigeria, especially during the Ember months campaigns,” he said.
Oyeyemi sad that the air ambulances are aimed at saving more lives and property across Nigeria, by swiftly coming to the rescue of accident victims.
” The commission is now rated among the best in the world and we are leaving no stone unturned in sanitizing Nigerian roads.
” We are also striving to be among the safest nations in the world by the year 2020, and to reduce fatalities due to road traffic crashes by fifty per cent,” he added.
The corps marshal also said that the commission had increased its commands and units, while capacity building was being vigorously pursued in Nigeria and abroad
Oyeyemi commended the Sokoto state government for the gesture, urging others to emulate it.
In his remarks, Gov. Aliyu Wamakko said that the gesture was in recognition of the sterling performance of the commission in effectively curtailing road traffic accident in Nigeria.
Wamakko however lamented the increasing number of fatal road traffic crashes, often caused by over loading of mostly commercial vehicles.
” This ugly trend is disturbing and all the stakeholders must team up to remedy the situation, ” he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the state Government, Alhaji Sahabi Gada, rei-stated the commitment of the state government to assist all federal agencies which operations were aimed at protecting lives and property.
The Sector Commander of the commission, Mr Takum Galadima promised to use the edifice properly, to improve the productivity and efficiency of its officers and men. ( NAN).
