For daring to shoot a soldier, four members of the Boko Haram sect have been killed by operatives of the Joint Task Force.
The soldier was shot by the suspected Boko Haram members on Saturday in Hotoro Quarters in Kano City, Kano State.
In an operation that involved the use of armoured tanks and snipers, the JTF raided the hideout of the Boko Haram members, a move that was initially resisted by the dreaded sect.
But four of them were eventually killed.
Spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the development.
Iweha said: “Four terrorists were gunned down Sunday morning at about 8:30am when JTF operatives raided the terrorists hideout in Hotoro, while some arrests were also made at the end of the operation, which lasted for about two hours.”
Iweha said the raid would be continuous.
On Saturday night, the Nigeria Police Bomb Squad defused a bomb at a viewing centre where football fans had gathered to watch the English Football Association Cup final between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC.
The bomb was planted at a viewing centre in Sabon Gari area of the town.
Owing to this, the police has ordered all viewing centres in the ancient town shut.
The Commissioner, Kano State Police Command, Ibrahim Idris, said: “I have instructed my DPOs to tell the viewing centre owners to close shop for between three and four weeks so that we can intensify security within those areas.
“These people have no target and we have to be cautious of whatever we are doing because their mission is to kill enmasse, which we have to do everything possible not to fall into their traps.
“So I advise all viewing centre owners in the state to comply with this instruction so as to avoid any calamity.”
