A court in Azerbaijan has on Friday sentenced five men to nine and 13 years imprisonment for fatally beating a journalist to death, a report said.
It said the journalist had used harsh words to criticised a local football player while passing a Facebook comment.
The journalist, Rasim Aliyev, was severely beaten in August at a meeting with relatives of the football player, Javid Huseynov, who played for the club, Gabala, the report said.
Aliyev had called Huseynov immoral and ill-bred for allegedly waving a Turkish flag at a match in Cyprus.
It said Turkey had invaded Cyprus in the mid-1970s and forced a partitioning of the Island.
The report said the court also sentenced one Elshan Ismayilov, a cousin and accomplice to Huseynov.
