The Federal Executive has approved contracts for the construction of five sub-stations in in order to improve the supply of power and better the life of the people.
The cost of the projects will be $21,400,650.42, plus €5,148,815, and N3,675,786,105.87.
The approved contracts and a breakdown of their costs include: Lot 2011-12 engineering, manufacture, supply, construction and commissioning of 2x60MVA, 133/33mv line Bays extension at Keffi, awarded to Messrs Liaoning Efacec ElevtricL Equipment Co, in the sum of $5,739,384.54 plus N694,464,572.83.
Lot 2011-14, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction and commissioning of 2x60MVA, 132/33kv substation at Nnenwe and 2x132kv line bays extension at Ugwuaji, awarded to Messrs Metro Elektrik for $5,955,066.60 plus N825,826,590.01.
Another contract awarded to Messrs TBEA Henyang was Lot 2011-15, Engineering, manufacture, procurement, supply,construction,and commissioning of 2x60MVA,132/33kv substation at Egbe and 2x132kv line bays extension at Omuran for $5,634,240.14 plus N740,273,654.32.
Lot 2010-33 engineering, manufacture, procurement, supply, construction, and commissioning of 2x60MVA,132/33kv substation at Ose LGA and Headquarters and 2x132kv line bays extension at Okeagbe awarded to Messrs Junot Engineering Services Limited in the sum of €5,148,815.00 plus N779,567,357.90.
Lot 2010-34: engineering, manufacture, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning of 2x60MVA,132/33kv substation at Gagarawa, Jigawa State, awarded to Messrs Power Control & Appliances Limited in the sum of $4,071,959.14 plus N635,635,940.81.
All the contracts have a completion period of 24 months.
The Minister of Information, Labaran <aku, who briefed the media after the meeting, said the Minister of Transportation also brought a memo to seek council’s approval for the rehabilitation of AMS Terminal “B” at Old Port, Warri, Delta State for the Ministry of Transport/Nigerian Ports Authority.
The project, when completed, according to Maku, will meet berthing requirements of numerous shipping companies serving oil drilling and prospecting companies.
The terminal will also improve the safety and security of inland water transportation, enhance the economic interaction of the people and create job oppotunities.
Having seen the advantages derivable from the project, Maku said, council approved the rehabilitation of AMS Terminal “B” at Old Port, Warri, Delta State for Ministry of Transport/Nigerian Ports Authority, in favour of Messrs China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., in the sum of N7,022,310,942.78 only, inclusive of all taxes, with a completion period of nine months.
Also, the FEC granted citizenship to 43 foreigners who applied for Nigerian citizenship.
They were chosen from the 122 applicants that were presented to the FEC by Moro, who is also the chairman of the Advisory Council on Nigeria Citizenship.
Those granted citizenship were nationals of Britain, United States of America, Lebanon, Russia, Egypt and Uruguay.
The remaining 79 applicants are to undergo further screening.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Maku said, also briefed the FEC on the performance of the 2011 budget.
Okonjo-Iweala said it has performed 83 per cent.
