The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Abimbola Fashola, has urged artistes to work together to promote the nation’s entertainment industry.
Fashola made the call at the launch on Monday night in Ikeja, Lagos of a book on actress Lanre Adesina, popularly known as Iya Awero.
Fashola, who noted that the industry had tremendously promoted the country’s culture and image, congratulated Adesina for her outstanding contributions to theatre arts.
She called on the public to support the actress by buying copies of the book as well as work for the growth of the industry.
The wife of the Ogun State Governor, Olufunso Amosun, described Adesina as an icon in the industry who deserved to be celebrated.
Amosun said: “I do admire the way she acts and I am also happy about the way she has carried others along in the industry.
“It is an honour well-deserved.”
Another artist, Adebayo Salami, also known as Oga Bello, described Adesina as a disciplined and patient woman who contributed immensely to the development of indigenous culture.
According to Salami, she is a lover of arts and has been a disciplined person from her days with Ojo Ladipo Theatre.
Adejumo Lewis, who acted in the now rested popular NTA drama series, Village Headmaster, said Adesina had proved to the world that women could also perform well.
Adesina thanked everybody at the occasion for supporting her career, saying she had been encouraged to do more.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the book, entitled: ‘I Will Die Acting’, was launched to commemorate Adesina’s 50 years on stage.
The book, made up of 100 pages and eight chapters, is on the life of the actress.
The launch was organised in honour of the actress by family, friends and her colleagues in the industry.
Comedians such as Hafiz Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, as well as Wale Adenuga Productions and other groups entertained the audience.
Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Adebisi Sosan, and King Sunny Ade also attended the launch.
