Exxon Mobil staff remanded in Kirikiri Prisons for raping teenager

A staff of Exxon Mobil in Nigeria, James Ikenna Onuoha, has been remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos State for raping a 14-year-old girl.
Onuoha was remanded by a Magistrate Court in Lagos for raping 14-year-old Chidera Igwe, the niece of his tenant.
The suspect was charged to court by the Nigeria Police.
The case is being handled by the Zone 2 Police Command, with Inspector Stephen Agbonedeso as the Investigating Police Officer.
Onuoha is to stay in prison till February 23 pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution except he is able to meet a N2 million bail condition, with two sureties in the same amount.
He was first arrested by the police in Ajah, the area where the crime was committed.
However, based on the seeming lukewarmness of the police in Ajah, the family of the raped girl cried out to the media.
The police swung into action, arresting Onuoha, who had allegedly visited his tenant’s house regarding payment of rent.
But the tenant was not at home when he visited.
Onuoha then went ahead to rape Igwe in the presence of the three-year-old daughter of the family.
Onuoha was arraigned on a four count charge of rape, which is a punishable offence under sections 134(2), 258, 135(1) and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The charge sheet reads: “That you Onuoha Ikenna James on January 4, 2016, at about 11.30am at no 25, Samuel Amoore Street, Idowu Estate, Ike-Ira Nla, Ajah, Lagos, did willfully did an indecent act on Chidera Igwe.
“Thereby, committing an offence punishable under section 134 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
“That you Onuoha Ikenna James did have unlawful sexual interclass with one Chidera Igwe without her consent and thereby committed an offence under section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”
