Ekiti workers suspend strike in honour of Fayose

The Joint Negotiating Council, the umbrella body of all industrial unions in Ekiti State, has called off the strike declared on October 2.

The workers went on strike to protest the non-payment of their August and September salaries and unremitted deductions from four months salaries.

The state chairman of the JNC, Oladipupo Johnson, who ordered the strike, said the action was being called off to give the new government an opportunity for negotiation.

It was gathered that the representatives of the JNC had earlier met with the Head of Service, Bunmi Famosaya, where it was agreed that the workers should accord the new government respect by calling off the action.

However, local government workers under the National Union of Local Government Employees, did not go on strike as they had collected their September salary.

With the suspension, workers are expected to resume work on Friday.
