A 23-year-old driver, Temitope Ajiboye, is facing trial in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly robbing two people of their belongings at gun point. Ajiboye of 14, Iwo Street, Meiran, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, armed robbery and belonging to a secret society.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, the offences were committed on February 7 and June 30 respectively at Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, Lagos. Aigbokhan said that the accused and others at large robbed one Oluwatobi Akinsowon of his cellphone, valued at N12,000, and his purse, which contained N2,000 among others. “The accused also robbed one Miss Rabiu Kafayat of her laptop and cell phone, valued at N116,000, with a cash sum of N10,000.”The accused was arrested some weeks after, but some of the stolen items were not found in his possession,” he said. He also said during investigation, the accused confessed to belonging to a confraternity.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 41, 294(1), 295(1) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty, and the magistrate, Mrs O. Olanipekun, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. She thereafter adjourned the case to September. 19, 2016.
