Delta governorship: Over 2,000 market women, youths boost Ogboru’s bid

The aspiration of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Delta State, Chief Great Ogboru, on Sunday received a boost as youths, under the aegis of the Delta Youth Movement for Justice, declared support for him.
Ogboru’s endorsement by the youth wing came barely 24 hours after over 2,000 Sapele market women urged all women at their solidarity rally in Sapele, the headquarters of Sapele Local Government Area of the state, to vote en-mass for him.
The youth group categorically said Ogboru, popularly known as the Peoples General, will be sworn in by May 29, this year as the next governor of the Big Heart state.
At the enlarged meeting of the group in Warri, its President, Comrade Peter Efe, who gave a graphic analysis of how Ogboru would defeat his Peoples Democratic Party challenger, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and that of the All Progressives Congress, Chief O’tega Emerhor, said his acceptance across the three senatorial districts of the state has signaled his victory.
He said: “Ogboru will transform all sectors of the state and create a peaceful atmosphere for fast development. We also wish to state it clearly that the people in the grassroot love Ogboru as a Deltan who they know will do his best to develop the state.”
The women, led by Madam Eunice Eseoghene, said Ogboru has the necessary political understanding of the state to govern it.
While they noted that Ogboru as been marginalized in the past 12 years, they urged President Goodluck Jonathan and the Independent National Electoral Commission to create an enabling environment, particularly in Delta State, for a popular choice of the people to emerge.
“We the traders in Sapele market decided to support him base on his good track records. We urge him not to relent in his struggle to become the governor of Delta state. We know if Ogboru becomes the governor of Delta State, within the first term in office, he will enhance the welfare of all Delta women in their professions,” Eseoghene said.
She said the women have resolved to mobilize the youths, comprising their sons and daughters and their husbands to vote only for Ogboru.
