Security chiefs in Kebbi State have combined efforts to ensure total border closure in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive to curtail the spread of Coronavirus Disease pandemic in the country.
DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said this in a statement on Friday.
Abubakar said the joint patrol comprised the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Others are the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Abubakar said all the security chiefs in the state after converging at the police headquarters went to Kamba-Niger Republic border on Thursday.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Oluyemi Agunbiade, led the joint enforcement team.
He said the security chiefs were received by the District Head of Kamba, Alhaji Mahmuda Zarumai, at Kyangyankwai, a border town near Kamba.
The police spokesman also said all members of the security agencies were at the venue to welcome the entourage.
He said the police boss demonstrated how to use the hand sanitiser, while advising the personnel to hand over any suspected case of COVID-19 to the relevant agency for isolation.
The commissioner of police, who addressed the border security personnel, admonished them to keep up the synergy existing between the various agencies.
He said the heads of agencies were at the venue to assess the level of compliance with the border closure.
The force team leader also urged the security personnel to allow returnee Nigerians into the country but endeavour to avoid body contact.
“This is to ensure that you are protected from the Coronavirus before protecting others,” he advised.
