Court adjourns case of former Kogi governor’s son

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has adjourned hearing in case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against Mustapha Audu, son of a former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, to November 26.
Justice Abubakar Umar adjourned the case at the instance of the EFCC Counsel, Sam Ugwuegulam, who failed to field his third witness for testimony.
“In the interest of justice and fear hearing, this case is further adjourned to November 26 for hearing at the instance of the prosecution,” the judge said.
Mustapha is standing trial alongside his wife, Zahrah Audu, and their company, Constructor Guild Limited, for obtaining the sum of N18 million from one Nike Kolawole.
The EFCC alleged that the accused persons collected the sum under the guise of building a four bedroom apartment at Ruskin Terrace in Katamkpe Extension, Abuja, for the complainant.
Earlier, the EFCC counsel filed a motion, dated July 22, seeking an order of the court to grant him leave to call a third witness, Mailafiya Yakubu, who investigated the case.
Ugwuegulam said that he attached the additional statement of his witness in the affidavit before the court.
He, however, apologised for his inability to field the third witness, saying that the witness had proceeded on annual leave outside the country.
The Counsel to the accused, Okechukwu Ajunwa, did not oppose the application.
