Commissioner dragged to court over bank loan, issuing of dud cheque

The Plateau State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Hitler Fankun Dadi, has been dragged to court for alleged abuse of public trust, defaulting in payment of bank loan and issuing of dud cheque.
Dadi, a former Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area, is said to have collected money from the First Lowland Micro Finance Bank Limited, amounting to millions of Naira and later issued a fake cheque to the bank.
Investigation showed that around 2011 when Dadi was the Local Government chairman of Langtang South, he had a problem with the then Governor, Jonah Jang, over alleged financial misappropriation, resulting in the freezing of his account.
He reportedly approached First Lowland Micro Finance Bank for financial assistance to enable him settle scores with Jang.
It was gathered that when the Bank started demanding for the money from Dadi, who was appointed Commissioner by Governor Simon Lalong, he started dribbling the company.
He refused to comply with the conditions given by the management of the bank, leading to the company dragging him to court.
Source said when the matter came up for hearing, Dadi admitted that he was the former chairman of Langtang South LGC and resides at Kamkun and that sometimes in February 2010, he opened a current account with the First Lowland Micro Finance Bank Limited with Account Number: 121102251.
He reportedly said in 2011, he approached the bank for a loan to enable him obtain the services of a legal practitioner during the tenure of Jang, who truncated his tenure and pleaded with the court for an out of court settlement, a request the court granted.
But the twist to it however was that after the court granted his application, Dadi only called the parties involved and issued a cheque of N150,000 and asked them to go and never to disturb him again.
An impeccable source, who pleaded his name should not be mentioned, said Dadi’s position on the matter further compelled the company return to court since they were not able to settle out of court as earlier prayed.
The source said: “We are surprised.
“When he had a problem with Jang and they wanted to remove him and they froze his account, he approached us requesting that if he didn’t have that money, he will be removed.
“His PA wrote a letter and signed and he counter signed.
‘After a week, he came back and pleaded that he needed additional money.
“We again gave him.
“But when the bank needed the money, Dadi now started playing funny games.
“He initially issued a cheque to us and when we went to clear it, the cheque bounced.
“We returned it to him and he could not issue another one.
“When the company took him to court, he denied part of the money and accepted part and pleaded for out of court settlement, just to come and send us N150,000 and said we shouldn’t disturb him again.”
Source said the matter is fixed for April 12, 2017 for hearing in Langtang.
When contacted, Dadi responded in a text message thus: “In a funeral church service of my colleague ARC Sam Galadima pls.”
When pushed further, he said: “My phone was off. I don’t know what you are talking about, or have you been paid to blackmail me? Am bereaved pls.”
