C130 will continue to evacuate Nigerians from CAR – CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Ibrahim, said that the Nigerian Air Force C130 aircraft would continue to evacuate Nigerian citizens from crisis-ridden Central African Republic.
This information was contained in a statement signed by Major General Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information, in Abuja on Sunday.
According to the statement, the aircraft will continue to bring the evacuees until the last displaced person is brought home safely.
Ibrahim commended the French Forces for providing security at the Bangui International Airport and cooperating with the DHQ team to facilitate the success of the evacuation of Nigerians from CAR.
He said the evacuees were being profiled by officials of National Emergency Management Agency at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for onward transportation to their various home states.
The CDS said the evacuees have expressed relief and appreciated Federal Government’s assistance when such aid was most needed.
“Central African Republic is currently engulfed in a debilitating internal crisis which resulted in total breakdown of all institutions of government, culminating into lawlessness, wanton killings and humanitarian disaster of monumental proportions,” the statement stated.
President Goodluck Jonathan had directed the immediate evacuation of Nigerians trapped in the crisis-ridden CAR.
