The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 elections, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, offered him the senatorial ticket of the APC following the crisis that has engulfed his own party, Peoples Democratic Party.
Governor Wike said this on Friday morning during an interview that was broadcast on several national televisions.
He was responding to a question from his interviewers on the allegation that he purchased the senatorial ticket of the PDP even before the presidential primaries of the party, which he lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He said the thought of contesting for the Senate had never crossed his mind.
He said this was because he had made a vow to the people of Rivers East Senatorial District, where he hails from, on the area that will produce who will occupy the seat.
Wike, who was interviewed by Amanda Igbuzor, Director of News, Nigerian Television Authority; Gbenga Aruleba of African Independent Television; Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television; and Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, Director of News, Television Continental, said: “I never collected any senatorial form.
“Even after the whole thing, Tinubu said come and go for the Senate.
“I said no.
“I won’t do that.
“I have already made a commitment.
“That the Senate should be zoned to this area because they have never had it before.”
