Insecurity in the northern part of the country occasioned by bombing and gunshots is taking his negative toll on the Nigeria Premier League.
Two matches originally scheduled for Wednesday would not hold and could be postponed indefinite for security reasons.
The matches are Gombe United versus Enyimba International and Kano Pillars against Ocean Boys billed for Gombe and Kano respectively.
Hours after NPL postponed the Enyimba’ away game in Gombe following the killing of the Chairman of Gombe State Referees council, Alhaji Ahmed, by unknown gunmen, Kano-bound contingent of Ocean Boys headed straight to Abuja following security report.
Eddy Ehis, an official of Ocean Boys, said that the team has decided to go to NPL office in Abuja rather than Kano, venue of the match, following security report.
“We have returned to Abuja for security reasons. We are heading to the office of the NPL to inform them. If they can guarantee our safety we will proceed,” Ehis said.
