Be vigilant against Tunisia, Maigari warns Eaglets

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari, on Sunday reminded the Golden Eaglets to be more vigilant after securing a berth into the semi-final stage of the ongoing 2013 Morocco CAN U-17.
On Saturday, the Nigerian lads recorded the highest margin score yet at the tournament after a 7-0 thrashing of Congo Brazzaville, which took them to the top of Group B in Marrakech.
This was after an earlier 6-1 win over Ghana.
The team’s only loss yet was the lone goal defeat by Cote d’Ivoire.
But Maigari at a morning session on Sunday at the Ryad Mogador Hotel told the players they can’t afford any slip in the remaining part of the competition.
He said: “I want to congratulate you on behalf of  President Goodluck Jonathan and the entire Nigerian people for qualifying for the semi-final of CAN Under-17 as well as the 2013 Under-17 World Cup to be hosted in the UAE.
“At the same time, I want you to forget about your past results and get ready for the game against Tunisia on Wednesday because there won’t be any margin for errors.”
Nigeria has won the CAN U-17 on two previous occasions in 2001 and 2007 and Alhaji Maigari believes this current team is on the threshold of history to extend the country’s record at this level by going all the way.
He noted: “Your next match against Tunisia is even more important because a win would take you to the final and we believe you have the capacity to do that but at the same time, I want you to apply yourselves even more.”
Similarly, Coach Manu Garba has reiterated the commitment of the Golden Eaglets at the tournament, adding that the players were ready to work extra hard to achieve glory.
Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets have started preparation ahead of the vital semi final game against Tunisia, which is yet to lose a game at this tournament.
The North Africans beat Botswana and Gabon 3-1 and 4-2 respectively.
They drew 1-1 with hosts, Morocco, to finish second in Group A due to inferior goal differences.
“We are keeping the players focussed against Tunisia,” Garba said. “In fact, we started training today (Sunday) just to regenerate the players ahead of the semi finals.”
