The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has called on National Youth Service Corps members posted to the state to embrace his administration’s entrepreneurship policies rather than being job seekers at the end of their service year.
Ahmed gave the advice on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Yikpata.
Ahmed said his administration placed high premium on youth capacity building through job and wealth creation.
“This is why an International Vocational Centre would soon be established in Ajasse-Ipo to make the state the hub of skill acquisition in West Africa,” the governor said.
While commending the corps members for their discipline, patriotism and dedication throughout their orientation exercise, the governor described the positive attitude as an indication of a brighter future for Nigeria.
Ahmed advised the corps members to be actively involved in the anti-HIV/AIDS campaign and also urged royal fathers, local government chairmen and security agencies to extend hospitality and protection to the corps members.
The state Coordinator, NYSC in Kwara State, Ezinne Ngozi Ezekwe, in her address, appealed to the state government to implement a N5,000 minimum state allowance for the corps members in line with the new posting policy of the NYSC scheme.
