Bayelsa United has emerged the winners of this year’s edition of the AITEO Cup following their victory over Nigeria Professional League side, Nasarawa United, at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State on Sunday.
The Bayelsa State team won on 4-3 penalties after the regulation time ended two goals a piece.
Bayelsa United, who were the underdogs prior to kick off, shot into the lead through Okardi in the 19th minute, but Ohanachom salvaged the situation with a quick equaliser for the Solid Miners as the Nasarawa United are also referred to.
Nasarawa’s Aliyu Abdullahi increased the tally in the 26th minute, but Bayelsa United fought back through Emo James, who got an equaliser in the 35th minute.
Nasarawa United’s goalkeeper Mohammed Galadima was voted the Man of the match for his amazing saves that kept his team in the game.
Earlier in the day, Bayelsa United’s counterparts Bayelsa Queens, defeated Lagos-based team, FC Robo Queens, 4-2 to win the women’s version of the tournament.
