A 28-year-old hotel attendant, Abolanle Badmus, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N516,000 from her employer.
Badmus, whose residential address was not given, is being tried for stealing but he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Christopher John, alleged the defendant stole the sum from Hunga DE Suite Hotel in Lagos State.
John told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Jan. 29 and Sept. 27 at Hunga DE Suite Hotel located at Mosalashi Bus Stop in Alimosho, Lagos.
He said that the defendant stole the money and efforts made to retrieve it proved abortive.
The Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ariyo said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravenes Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and attracts seven years’ jail term.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 29 for mention.
