The National Association of Polytechnic Students has threatened to barricade all major locations in Nigeria if the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities fail to allow Nigerian students return to school.
The President of NAPS, Comrade Ogbonnaya Sunday, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, as the country marked its 53 years of independence.
Ogbonnaya said that NAPS has resolved to embark on such action in solidarity with Nigerian university students who are affected as a result of the lingering strike action.
He said: “As Nigeria marks her 53rd independence anniversary celebration, we are giving an ultimatum to both the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to come to a conclusion by resolving all gray areas and called-off the strike immediately.
“NAPS in solidarity cannot watch Nigeria students serve as victim of resolvable action of both authorities. And as such, we are sending this as warning, that if the strike continues any further, we shall mobilise the entire Nigeria students to barricade all locations in the federation until normalcy is returned.”
Ogbonnaya described as regrettable a situation where Nigeria as a country is celebrating her 53rd anniversary as an independent nation and her students are made to stay at home to face hardship and death, with such situations as what took place in Yobe State where students of the College of Agriculture, Gujba were killed by members of dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
