A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, was on Friday night released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after he was questioned for a few hours by its operatives.
Akpabio had arrived the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja at about 5:30pm.
He drove himself there after leaving his Abuja residence at about 5pm.
He was released later on Friday night.
Writing on his Tweeter handle, Akpabio said he was not arrested by the EFCC, but only went there to answer to allegations levelled against him.
He tweeted: “Senator Akpabio has nothing to hide that’s why he walked himself into EFCC to answer questions about his tenure as governor.
“Those who are playing politics with the decision of Senator Akpabio to honour the invitation must be acting a known script.”
Akpabio, who is now the Minority Leader of the Senate (pictured arriving his Abuja home after the EFCC grilling), was accused by a lawyer, Leo Ekpeyong, of having mismanaged over N108 billion while he was in office as governor.
