Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said that his administration will explore the available potentials in Kenya to develop agriculture and tourism sectors in the state.
Ajimobi disclosed this on Monday in Ibadan while receiving the newly-appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Akin Oyateru, who paid him a courtesy call in his office.
The governor observed that some of the tourist potentials that abound in Kenya could be replicated in the state, adding that the mechanized farming system of that country could also be explored for the benefit of the state.
He charged the new ambassador, who is an indigene of the state, to use his experience to facilitate other areas of cooperation with his host country, with a view to taking Oyo State to an enviable position and restoring its pace-setting status, which had been lost, due to long years of bad governance.
Ajimobi, who said that his administration had put in place machinery for the socio-economic transformation of the state, noted that tourism and agriculture could contribute a lot to the state’s internally-generated revenue, hence the need for cooperation with the Kenyan government in these areas.
Oyateru said that he was impressed by the high level of performance of Ajimobi within one year that he came on board.
He particularly commended the establishment of a separate ministry for culture and tourism, saying this would go a long way in developing the vast tourist attractions in the state.
Oyateru assured the governor that he would work towards intensifying the mutual cooperation that had been existing between Nigeria and Kenya.
He acknowledge the support given to him and all the three senators representing the state during his screening for the post, pledging that he would not disappoint the people of the state.
