Afenifere chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has described as face-saving and white lie the comment by the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, that he would not shield the murderer of 34-year-old Foluso Ogundare, killed in Emure-Ekiti 11 days ago.
Adeyeye said the governor should rather demonstrate his respect for the sanctity of human lives by stopping frustration of the trial of the state Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Jide Awe, and others being tried for alleged involvement in the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Juliana Adewumi.
Fayemi had said while speaking to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday night that he would not shield any of his aides or supporters found connected with the murder of Ogundare.
He also appealed to members of his party, APC, to allow peace to reign in the state.
In his reaction, Adeyeye said in a statement issued by the Director General of his campaign organisation, Hon Bisi Kolawole: “It is a clear display of wickedness for a governor to wait for 10 days to react to the gruesome murder of a citizen of his State.
“We have heard Fayemi saying that he won’t shield murderers of Foluso Ogundare and we wish to ask him who is shielding one Muyiwa Abegunde, one of the suspects who is said to be hiding in the Ekiti State Government House?
“We also want to remind Fayemi that the State Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Rotimi Olabiwonu (Mentilo), and former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Hassan, and others were arrested by the police and charged to court for alleged involvement in the murder of Chief Adeleye Awolumate and attempted murder of Mrs Adeola Akande in Otun-Ekiti on November 18, 2010.
“Was Fayemi not the one who caused his Commissioner for Justice to make a ‘no case’ submission to free those who murdered Chief Awolumate?
“Is Fayemi not the one that is frustrating the trial of the Ekiti State Interim Chairman of the APC, Jide Awe on the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Juliana Adewumi?
“Who made sure that the killer of Teslim Abiola, a 400 Level Accounting student of the Ekiti State University, who was hit by a vehicle driven by Fayemi’s aide on September 26, 2012, was not tried?
“Who is habouring a dismissed State Security Service (SSS) officer, Deji Adesokan, as his aide on Internal Security and allowing him (Adesokan) to go about carrying guns?
“Fayemi should therefore begin his repentance by first making sure that his aides that killed Awolumate, Teslim Abiola, Ayo Jeje and Juliana Adewumi are brought to book before telling us what he intends to do with those who killed Foluso Ogundare.”
