Former Flying Eagles Assistant Coach, Samuel Abimbola, has become the first casualty of the 2012/13 Premier League season as he has resigned his appointment with Sunshine Stars of Akure.
The erstwhile Gateway United of Abeokuta handler, who took over the reigns of the Akure Gunners from Gbenga Ogunbote, The Eagle Online gathered, resigned honourably after the team’s 2-0 defeat to Rangers International of Enugu on Sunday.
The former COD of Lagos coach, in a chat with our reporter, said the decision to resign was personal to him, stressing that at the appropriate time, he would disclose the reasons he had to stand down from the job after just four months in charge.
“It is true that I have resigned but the reasons are best known to me. At the appropriate time, I will let the world know why I had to take the option,” he said.
He, however, disclosed that he gave his resignation letter to the team manager, Rasheed Balogun, immediately after the match with Rangers in Enugu, stressing: “I will formally give the management the letter.”
Coach Abimbola was John Obuh’s assistant at the African Youth Champions, which the Flying Eagles won in South Africa in 2011.
